Battery Product Certification Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead certification and regulatory approval processes for lithium-ion cells, modules, battery packs, racks, and ESS containers across global markets
• Coordinate with third-party labs (CAS, UL, TÜV, etc.) to conduct required testing for standards such as UL 1973, UL 2580, UL 9540, UL 9540A, UN 38.3, IEC 62133, NFPA 855, etc.
• Engage with local authorities and AHJs to address safety and compliance requirements
• Work closely with product design, systems, and quality teams to ensure early integration of compliance requirements into product development cycles
• Develop and manage product compliance plans and timelines to align with project milestones
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation for certification submissions, including test reports, risk assessments, and declarations of conformity

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field
• 3+ years of experience in battery certification, regulatory compliance, or product safety engineering for EV or ESS products
• Hands-on experience with battery-related standards and certifications (e.g., UL 2580, UL 9540, UN 38.3, NFPA 68, NFPA 69, NFPA 855, etc.)
• Experience working with third-party testing labs and certification agencies
• Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience with large-scale ESS product fire and safety certifications
• Registered Fire Protection Engineer (FPE), certified fire marshal, or direct experience working with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Chinese (Mandarin)
