About the role
Responsibilities
- Identify and implement new battery anode material grade opportunities by incorporating market-back needs and innovative technical approaches
- Drive product development workflows at lab and pilot scales, including prototypes, validation, and scale-up
- Lead product interface for synthetic graphite process development teams across lab, pilot, and commercial scales
- Own product specifications and ensure processing and performance fit-for-use in battery assembly and testing
- Provide technical leadership to define research needs and participate in quality assurance for research applications
- Actively contribute content to intellectual property (IP) development
Requirements
- B.S. in Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering (M.S. or Ph.D. preferred)
- 5+ years of industry experience focused on battery anode material development and production
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with battery cell manufacture and testing
- Hands-on experience with milling/shaping technology and conventional carbon powder characterization techniques (SEM, ICP, XRD, etc.)
- Familiarity with grinding/milling operations and subsequent heat treatment steps for graphite production
- Deep understanding of how product attributes (particle size, surface area, impurities) impact battery performance
- Ability to manage multiple interfaces across the value chain from coke to final Li-ion application
