Balance of Plant (BOP) Technician II

Responsibilities

• Travel extensively to utility-scale Solar, BESS, and Balance of Plant facilities throughout the United States.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on Solar PV systems, BESS, High Voltage equipment, and BOP infrastructure.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair DC electrical systems, combiner boxes, string wiring, and PV modules.
• Diagnose and repair tracker systems, including motors, actuators, drives, and gearboxes.
• Perform inspections and repairs on central and string inverter systems.
• Utilize electrical testing equipment and plant monitoring systems (SCADA, PLC, BMS, PCS) to diagnose equipment performance.
• Support Medium Voltage transformer isolation, switching activities, substation maintenance, and protective relay troubleshooting.
• Complete digital work orders, maintenance reports, and inspection documentation.
• Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), pre-job briefings, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience in utility-scale Solar, BESS, renewable energy, or related industrial power generation.
• Ability to travel up to 100% nationwide based on operational needs.
• Working knowledge of Solar PV, BESS, and High Voltage systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Experience working with SEL or GE relays, RTACs, or similar protection systems.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical tasks including climbing ladders and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• OSHA 10/30 or NFPA 70E Certification.
• Medium Voltage Switching Qualification.
• Experience with lithium-ion battery technologies or specific BESS platforms (Tesla Megapack, Fluence, etc.).
• Experience with SCADA, DAS, EMS, or BMS systems.
• NERC or Qualified Electrical Worker certification.
