Backend Software Engineer - Simulations

Responsibilities

• Build and own production-grade simulation and forecasting software, focusing on Rune's logistics forecaster.
• Implement software using mathematical models, numerical methods, and scientific formulas.
• Collaborate with the forecaster lead and platform team to integrate simulation capabilities into TyrOS workflows.
• Participate in technical design discussions and code reviews to maintain engineering rigor.
• Triage and debug production issues to ensure reliability for operational needs.
• Work with engineers, product managers, and military stakeholders to meet real-world sustainment requirements.

Requirements

• 4+ years of software engineering experience, specifically building software in scientific or mathematically complex domains (e.g., sensor algorithms, motion planning, or forecasting).
• Proficiency in Python, C++, or Go.
• Strong mathematical or scientific background through degree, graduate work, or professional experience.
• Ability to implement numerical methods and reason about correctness in terms of physics or math.
• Strong software engineering foundation with a focus on production-quality code.

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree or graduate degree in a scientific field such as physics, applied mathematics, aerospace, or mechanical engineering.
• Experience at a defense-adjacent autonomous systems company.
• Familiarity with numerical simulation frameworks or scientific computing libraries.
• Experience deploying software to production environments, including cloud (AWS, Kubernetes) and edge infrastructure.
