Backend Software Engineer

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend services and REST APIs using Laravel and PHP
• Design data models, write migrations, and optimize queries for MySQL or PostgreSQL
• Improve platform performance and reliability through monitoring, debugging, and root-cause fixes
• Write and maintain automated unit, feature, and integration tests
• Support and improve CI/CD pipelines and environments using tools like Docker and GitHub Actions
• Collaborate with product, frontend, and mobile engineers to ship features end-to-end
• Document APIs and key system workflows clearly for the engineering team

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience building production systems with PHP and Laravel
• Strong expertise in relational databases (MySQL or PostgreSQL) and query optimization
• Proven experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs (including authentication, pagination, and versioning)
• Proficiency with Git and modern development workflows such as Pull Requests and CI/CD
• Experience writing automated tests using PHPUnit and/or Pest
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively within a team

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Redis, queues, background jobs, and event-driven patterns
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
• Familiarity with healthcare data interoperability standards like HL7 2.x and FHIR
• Experience with integration engines such as Mirth Connect
