Backend Software Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain internal developer tooling, including service boilerplates and reusable packages to standardize the SDLC.
• Implement self-service workflows for provisioning backend, frontend, and serverless services.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines and build infrastructure to ensure fast and reliable deployments.
• Define and streamline release engineering practices, including semantic versioning and quality gates.
• Establish testing strategies and tooling across multiple layers (unit, integration, E2E).
• Own and operate AI agent-driven workflows (e.g., Claude) to automate repetitive tasks like API scaffolding and data migration scripting.
• Promote engineering excellence by defining coding conventions, security standards, and observability patterns.

Requirements

• Expert proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript on Node.js (specifically NestJS).
• Extensive knowledge of the npm ecosystem and modern JavaScript tooling.
• Proven experience with modern API design and microservices architecture.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines such as CircleCI or GitHub Actions.
• Experience implementing testing strategies using tools like Jest, Vitest, or Playwright.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Ansible.
• Experience deploying and managing applications within Kubernetes and the AWS ecosystem.
• Experience working with AI coding agents and pipelines (e.g., Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude).

Preferred Qualifications

• Interest in data science, artificial intelligence, and education technology.
• Experience using Developer Experience (DX) metrics such as DORA or SPACE.
• Familiarity with the OpenTelemetry standard.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails or Microfrontend architectures.
• Background in Platform Engineering, DevOps, or MarTech.
