Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Scope and lead large technical projects, translating business goals into clear technical requirements and executing effectively
• Design, build, and maintain scalable bank integration infrastructure to connect banks and the internet economy
• Align the tech stack with Stripe’s strategic initiatives while advocating for the needs of emerging businesses
• Work with engineers across the company to deliver comprehensive and reliable access to trustworthy banking data
• Balance short-term requirements with long-term roadmaps, making decisions that consider business priorities and sustainable technical foundations
• Mentor and collaborate with other engineers and managers to grow the next generation of leaders at Stripe

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience designing and engineering large-scale systems
• Proven track record of leading and shipping complex cross-team projects end-to-end
• Strong technical background with an ability to work with high autonomy and an entrepreneurial mindset
• Experience working in fluid conditions, balancing tactical and strategic considerations
• Ability to work cross-functionally and earn trust from co-workers at all levels
• Preference for simple, scalable designs over complex ones
