Backend Engineer

About the Company

Outpost is building the AI global trade engine. We operate as Merchant of Record or Tax of Record across 58+ tax jurisdictions, providing the infrastructure that allows businesses to sell anything, anywhere without the usual complexity of international commerce.

Responsibilities

• Write high-quality, maintainable code and implement core payment and financial systems
• Build secure, scalable backend services and contribute to system architecture discussions
• Design and build robust payment processing flows and internal ledger systems
• Create merchant integration frameworks and develop automated monitoring and alerting
• Work with the product team to refine technical requirements and contribute to API design
• Collaborate with risk and compliance teams on system requirements

Requirements

• Fluency in a JVM-based language, preferably Kotlin
• Proven track record of implementing complex backend systems
• Strong engineering fundamentals and coding practices
• Ability to design systems and handle ambiguity
• High bias for action and desire to build from scratch

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building financial, payments, tax, or compliance systems
• Familiarity with e-commerce platforms
