Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Build, operate, and scale core backend systems powering the Lapel platform
• Design and develop robust APIs and services for end-to-end product features
• Collaborate with founders, product, and design to translate ideas into scalable solutions
• Shape backend architecture, infrastructure, and tooling decisions
• Own backend projects from scoping and deployment to post-launch iteration
• Design and manage database schemas, data models, and data flows
• Optimize system performance, reliability, and scalability
• Implement security, authentication, and data protection best practices
• Contribute to infrastructure and deployment pipelines
• Debug and resolve production issues to ensure high uptime

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend or software engineering experience
• Proven track record of building and scaling enterprise products
• Proficiency in backend technologies such as Node.js, Python, or Go
• Experience with databases like PostgreSQL or MySQL
• Strong understanding of system design, scalability, and performance optimization
• Ability to translate product needs into reliable backend systems
• Proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable in fast-paced environments
