Backend Engineer, API

About the Company

Pylon is building America’s mortgage rails through a vertically integrated platform that turns mortgage origination into a single API. Backed by prominent investors including Peter Thiel and Conversion Capital, Pylon is simplifying the $13T mortgage market for publicly traded companies and large originators.

Responsibilities

• Define semantic models for mortgages at the API layer to expand what a mortgage can be
• Build and evolve an event-driven API architecture
• Design thoughtful abstractions and clear documentation to ensure a high-quality developer experience
• Model complex, non-linear mortgage flows and branching logic within the API
• Manage the full API lifecycle, including versioning, breaking changes, and onboarding

Requirements

• Deep curiosity and a desire to own features from design through maintenance
• Ability to solve complex, high-stakes problems
• High agency and a track record of delivering outcomes independently

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with TypeScript, GraphQL, and NestJS
• Experience with SQL (PostgreSQL)
• Knowledge of Temporal.io or workflow orchestration
• Experience with event-driven architecture
• Familiarity with AI-driven development tooling
