Back End Web Developer

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and maintain custom Drupal modules, content types, and back end configurations.
• Lead Drupal version upgrades, migrations, and major platform initiatives.
• Manage Drupal security updates, performance optimization, and caching strategies.
• Maintain development environments and deployment pipelines using Composer, Drush, and Git.
• Develop and maintain integrations between Drupal and the college’s marketing technology stack, including the Slate CRM and third-party APIs.
• Act as a technical liaison between the Marketing & Communications team and the internal IT department (GTS).
• Conduct regular back end audits to resolve performance bottlenecks and security vulnerabilities.
• Document system architecture, integration logic, and development standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• 5+ years of professional web development experience.
• 3+ years of Drupal back end development (Drupal 9 or 10 required).
• Deep proficiency in PHP and object-oriented programming principles.
• Proficiency with Drupal tooling including Composer, Drush, and Git-based version control.
• Experience with database management and optimization (MySQL or PostgreSQL).
• Experience developing and maintaining third-party API integrations and RESTful web services.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in higher education, nonprofit, or complex institutional environments.
• Experience with Drupal multi-site architecture and complex organizational deployments.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks.
• Experience with enrollment CRM platforms (Slate preferred).
• Knowledge of cloud hosting environments such as Acquia or Pantheon.
