Automotive Mechanic II

Responsibilities

• Perform electronic and mechanical repairs and adjustments on police department vehicles and equipment
• Install and maintain aftermarket electronics including lighting systems, two-way radios, surveillance equipment, and in-car camera systems
• Conduct complete motor overhauls on gasoline or diesel-powered engines
• Replace and rebuild components such as universal joints, differentials, axles, transmissions, and clutches
• Repair and adjust hydraulic systems, including motors, hoses, and fittings
• Perform welding work incidental to repair assignments
• Manage inventory by ordering and maintaining a working stock of electronic and mechanical equipment

Requirements

• High school diploma, equivalent, or vocational school graduation
• Experience in automotive mechanical work at the journeyman level
• Valid Mississippi driver’s license
• Ability to interpret wiring diagrams and schematics
• Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s technical degree in electronics
• Military electronics training
• 1-3 years of electronics-specific experience
• 3-5 years of general related automotive experience
