Automotive Diesel Mechanic

Responsibilities

• Maintain, service, inspect, and repair combustion-powered automotive vehicles, over-the-road trucks, and light combat vehicles
• Perform operator, intermediate, and limited major rebuild levels of maintenance, including spot painting
• Diagnose malfunctions and determine the best repair methods for heavy-duty machinery, engines, hydraulic systems, and transmissions
• Assemble, disassemble, repair, or modify various vehicle components and systems
• Read and interpret parts lists, manufacturer and government repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics
• Utilize technical manuals, lubrication orders, and modification instructions to repair all rolling stock assets
• Comply with all established safety, quality, and time schedule standards

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Four years of directly related work experience
• MVAC 609 Technician Certification
• Valid State Motor Vehicle Operator License
• U.S. Citizenship
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) and Base Access

Preferred Qualifications

• Certificate from a vocational school or recognized source in electrical or automotive repair
• Completion of basic, organizational, and intermediate automotive maintenance courses
• Completion of advanced motor transport maintenance courses
• Working knowledge of heavy-duty engines, hydraulic systems, and transmissions
