Automotive Diesel Mechanic

Responsibilities

• Maintain, service, inspect, and repair combustion-powered automotive vehicles, over-the-road trucks, and light combat vehicles.
• Perform operator, intermediate, and limited major rebuild levels of maintenance, including spot painting.
• Detect faulty items, determine causes of malfunction, and implement best repair methods.
• Assemble, disassemble, repair, or modify various components and systems.
• Read and interpret parts lists, manufacturer and Government repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
• Utilize Technical Manuals, Lubrication Orders, and Modification Instructions to repair all rolling stock assets.
• Comply with all established safety standards, quality standards, and time schedules.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Four years of directly related work experience.
• MVAC 609 Technician Certification.
• Valid State Motor Vehicle Operator License.
• U.S. Citizenship.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) and Base Access.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certificate from a vocational school or recognized source in electrical or automotive repair.
• Completion of basic, organizational, and intermediate automotive maintenance courses.
• Completion of advanced motor transport maintenance courses.
• Working knowledge of heavy-duty machinery, engines, hydraulic systems, and transmissions.
