About the role
Responsibilities
- Develop basic and detailed engineering activities for automation projects, including technical proposals and software development.
- Provide technical assistance, hardware selection, and software development to improve plant safety, comfort, and productivity.
- Support project coordinators in the implementation of automation projects through teamwork and standardized solutions.
- Validate conceptual and basic designs of automatic sequences using software simulation tools.
- Execute commissioning and start-up activities following all safety procedures and local regulations.
- Provide technical support to stabilize or correct recurrent problems on automated machines, lines, and processes.
- Maintain software backups and archive all relevant documentation and developed software.
Requirements
- Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation & Robotics, or an equivalent technical field.
- 5–10 years of experience in automation or managing related engineering projects.
- Strong expertise in PLC programming and troubleshooting using Rockwell Automation platforms (Studio 5000 / Logix 5000).
- Hands-on experience with ABB industrial robots, including RAPID programming and integration.
- Experience with AC and DC motor drives, specifically Rockwell PowerFlex and ABB (ACS / DCS series).
- Strong understanding of Canadian manufacturing safety standards and procedures.
- Ability to work onsite in a steel manufacturing mill environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a steel mill or metal manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Siemens PLC platforms.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office applications.
