Automation Engineer/Project Engineer: Digital Manufacturing and Data Lab

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain the Digital Manufacturing & Data Lab infrastructure, including automation systems and virtualized environments
• Develop, configure, and support Siemens PCS7 systems, including WinCC and Simatic Batch
• Build and maintain simulation capabilities and digital twins using SIMIT for virtual commissioning and testing
• Administer lab IT/OT infrastructure, including virtualization, network components, and TCP/IP setups
• Integrate controllers, field devices, and lab equipment into cohesive automation and data environments
• Support engineers and data scientists in utilizing lab systems for experiments and troubleshooting
• Participate in digitalization projects from requirements gathering through to prototyping and implementation

Requirements

• University degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
• Hands-on experience with Siemens PCS7, WinCC, and Simatic Batch
• Experience with simulation tools such as SIMIT or similar platforms
• Solid understanding of PLCs, field instrumentation, and industrial protocols (OPC UA, Profinet, Modbus)
• Practical knowledge of IT/OT infrastructure, including virtualization (VMware, Proxmox) and Windows administration
• Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on, collaborative mindset

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to data systems such as historians, MES, or analytics platforms
• Experience with virtual commissioning and digital twin approaches
• Proficiency in the German language
