About the role
Responsibilities
- Design, build, commission, and troubleshoot automation, robotics, and mechatronics projects
- Leverage industrial automation technologies including PLCs, HMIs, machine vision, sensors, and actuators
- Organize, analyze, and present research data through reports and presentations
- Collaborate with internal and external groups to support project execution
- Conduct research and analysis to address well-defined engineering problems
- Work with vendors to ensure safe and compliant project execution
Requirements
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, software engineering, mechatronics, or a related field
- Experience deploying automation systems in manufacturing or related industries
- Experience programming industrial-grade PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff)
- Experience programming industrial-grade robotic arms (e.g., KUKA, FANUC, Universal Robots)
- Experience designing and implementing electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems
- Proficiency with CAD and other design software
- Experience building industrial closed-loop control systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, software engineering, or mechatronics
- Experience designing and troubleshooting Safety Interlock Systems (SIS)
- Knowledge of ISO and ANSI safety standards
- Experience with welding, fabricating, or machining metal parts
- Experience with rapid prototyping (3D printing, laser cutting)
- Certifications in mechatronics, controls, or robotics
