Responsibilities

• Build Capital B Augusta's editorial operation from the ground up
• Launch and lead the local newsletter
• Report, assign, and edit journalism focused on civic life
• Establish editorial workflows, coverage priorities, and newsroom routines
• Create short-form video to grow audience across social platforms
• Build trusted relationships across Black Augusta
• Lead a team of part-time community ambassadors
• Partner with audience, product, and design teams to grow engagement
• Use audience data and experimentation to improve journalism
• Develop responsible AI workflows to strengthen local news

Requirements

• Deep understanding of Augusta and issues affecting Black communities there
• At least five years of reporting and editing experience
• Strong news judgment and excellent editing skills
• Experience with newsletters or audience-focused journalism
• Experience creating compelling social video or enthusiasm to be on camera
• Entrepreneurial mindset and comfort working without a playbook
• Commitment to community-informed journalism
• Ability to use audience data and feedback for editorial decisions
• Curiosity about using AI responsibly in journalism
• Ability to collaborate across editorial, audience, and business teams
