About the role

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the inventory, organization, and arrangement of physical and digital collections.
  • Scan historical documents and artifacts using high-quality digitization equipment.
  • Develop detailed metadata records for digitized materials in compliance with federal standards.
  • Transcribe oral histories and historical documents ensuring accuracy and adherence to style guidelines.
  • Upload, organize, and maintain digital assets within the digital repository.
  • Collaborate with the Project Director, NHPRC Presidential Fellows, and consultants.
  • Support the creation of public-facing content, such as virtual exhibitions and teaching materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in library and information science, Archival Studies, History, or a related field.
  • At least one year of experience in archival work, including digitization and cataloging.
  • Proficiency with archival management software such as Preservica or ArchivesSpace.
  • Familiarity with metadata standards such as Dublin Core or MARC.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience with transcription and oral history projects.
  • Knowledge of federal archival standards and practices.
  • Interest in American presidential history or related topics.
