Audio Engineering Intern

Responsibilities

• Learn NPR’s quality standards through proper recording and audio repair techniques, including the use of equalizers, compressors, and noise reduction
• Observe and practice mixing and fixing audio and video podcasts using DAVID Systems MTE and AVID Pro Tools
• Support live events at NPR HQ alongside professional Audio Engineers
• Assist with audio equipment installation, repair tasks, and inventory management projects
• Leverage audio production best practices to complete practice mixes and build technical experience
• Communicate clearly with both editorial and technical colleagues in a fast-paced environment

Requirements

• Current student in an accredited degree program or a recent graduate (within the last 12 months)
• Formal education in audio production (e.g., radio/TV broadcast, post-production, live sound, or music recording)
• Experience with AVID Pro Tools
• Solid understanding of audio engineering fundamentals and signal flow
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work on-site in Washington, D.C. for 16 hours per week
