About the role
About the Company
The Nassau County District Attorney's Office investigates and prosecutes violations of state and local criminal statutes occurring within Nassau County. With nearly 200 attorneys and a total staff in excess of 400, it is one of the largest district attorney's offices in the country.
Responsibilities
- Assist in interviewing, investigating, and taking written statements from complainants, witnesses, and defendants
- Disseminate documents, motions, subpoenas, and court orders
- Review case profiles and assist in researching pertinent legal points
- Screen noncriminal complaints and direct them to appropriate agencies
- Draft compromises and cease and desist agreements
- Conduct follow-up investigations and participate in legal research for trial preparation
- Perform duties in both English and Spanish
Requirements
- Associate's degree with a legal assistant certificate OR a Bachelor's degree
- One year of legal research experience may substitute for the legal assistant certificate
- Must be a Nassau County resident for at least 12 months
- Fluency in Spanish and English
- Knowledge of the American legal system and legal documents
- Ability to interview and evaluate information effectively
Benefits
- Starting annual salary: $40,622
- Salary after 6 months: $48,159
- Salary after 1 year: $63,254
