About the Company

The Nassau County District Attorney's Office investigates and prosecutes violations of state and local criminal statutes occurring within Nassau County. Situated on Long Island, the office is one of the largest district attorney's offices in the country and is dedicated to constant philosophical and technological modernization.

Responsibilities

• Assist in interviewing, investigating, and taking written statements from complainants, witnesses, and defendants
• Disseminate documents, motions, subpoenas, and court orders
• Review case profiles and assist in researching pertinent legal points
• Screen noncriminal complaints and direct them to appropriate agencies
• Arrange and draft compromises and cease and desist agreements
• Conduct follow-up investigations and participate in legal research for trial preparation

Requirements

• Associate's degree from an accredited institution with a legal assistant certificate OR a Bachelor's degree
• One year of legal research experience may substitute for the legal assistant certificate
• Must be a Nassau County resident for at least 12 months
• Must be able to pass a Civil Service examination
• Knowledge of the American legal system and legal documents
• Ability to interview and evaluate information effectively
• Strong oral and written communication skills
