About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel and consultation to the Director and agency personnel regarding contracts, labor/personnel matters, fiscal issues, and policy management.
  • Act as legal counsel to the Ohio Veterans Home (OVH), including aiding in the creation, implementation, and oversight of policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a liaison between the OVH and the Ohio Attorney General’s Office (AGO) on legal and ethics matters.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate legal programs and supervise assigned staff.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare briefs, contracts, leases, orders, and other legal documents.
  • Oversee regulatory compliance, administrative investigations, rulemaking, and veteran benefit oversight.
  • Review and maintain working knowledge of all legislation, case law, and federal/state guidance applicable to DVS and OVH.

Requirements

  • Admission to the Ohio Bar pursuant to Section 4705.01 of the Revised Code.
  • Minimum of 18 months of experience as a licensed attorney.
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience in supervisory principles and techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge of substantive and procedural law.
  • Ability to advise on contracts, labor, fiscal, and policy matters.
