About the role
Responsibilities
- Serve as the University’s chief accounting officer, providing strategic leadership and oversight for all financial operations.
- Direct and oversee accounting, bursar operations, payroll administration, accounts payable, procurement services, and fixed asset management.
- Develop and implement effective financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard University assets.
- Ensure the integrity of the general ledger and coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements, reconciliations, and management reports in compliance with GAAP.
- Act as the primary liaison to external auditors and coordinate annual financial audits.
- Advise senior leadership on accounting, compliance, financial reporting, and operational matters.
- Monitor financial risks and implement internal control systems to ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- Eight (8) years of progressively responsible accounting and financial management experience.
- Five (5) years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, audits, and compliance functions.
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP and proficiency with ERP systems.
- Strong financial analysis, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
- Ten (10) years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience.
- Experience in higher education accounting and financial management.
- Experience with Ellucian Colleague or comparable ERP systems.
- Experience overseeing Bursar, Payroll, Procurement, and Fixed Asset operations.
