Associate Veterinarian

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality medical care to multiple species in collaboration with the Lead Veterinarian
• Assess and collaborate on protocols with animal care leadership
• Inform on appropriate treatments and processes for high-volume caseloads
• Cultivate relationships with external animal healthcare providers and specialists
• Serve as a strategic thought partner for professional development of the wellness team
• Advise on difficult or complex cases and participate in healthcare rounds
• Enforce risk management strategy, including oversight of controlled substances
• Partner with the research team on non-invasive, sanctuary-based research studies
• Serve as advisor to the Animal Sanctuary Welfare team on enrichment
• Represent Farm Sanctuary in DVM meetings and to donors or the public
• Support the Intern Program with onsite daily tasks

Requirements

• Active Veterinary State License in New York
• Doctor of Veterinary degree or equivalent from an accredited university
• Large animal and avian experience required (cattle, goat, sheep, pig)
• Ability to work with various species including alpacas, llamas, donkeys, and poultry
• Proven skills in conventional medicine, diagnostics, and healthcare record keeping
• Ability to perform heavy physical work and operate in various weather conditions
