Associate Scientist 1

Responsibilities

• Perform non-research biological science work using microbiological and molecular techniques, including DNA extraction and real-time PCR
• Handle, receive, and process daily operational, Quality Assurance, and proficiency test samples
• Prepare reagents and samples in accordance with standard operating procedures
• Maintain chain-of-custody (CoC) and perform data entry using computerized systems
• Conduct decontamination of workspaces, including biological safety cabinets, hoods, and equipment
• Perform routine equipment calibration, cleaning, assembly, and maintenance
• Collect and analyze internal laboratory swipes/swabs for QA/QC and contamination monitoring
• Manage proper disposal of bio-hazardous waste and maintain laboratory inventory
• Prepare written and oral technical reports for the Lead Biological Scientist

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in microbiology, molecular biology, or a related biological science field
• At least one year of laboratory bench experience outside of an academic environment
• Proficiency with PCR, aseptic techniques, and biological assays
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DHS Suitability security clearance
• Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and perform repetitive motions such as pipetting

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a Biological Safety Level 3 (BSL-3) environment
• Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
