About the role
Responsibilities
- Design, instrument, and execute physical experiments in manufacturing environments to generate high-quality datasets
- Develop data acquisition and processing pipelines for sensor data, machine telemetry, and images
- Train, optimize, and deploy machine learning models on edge computing platforms like NVIDIA Jetson or Raspberry Pi
- Collaborate with manufacturing partners to translate high-impact problems into research experiments
- Analyze experimental results and communicate findings through clear visualizations and written reports
- Contribute to the development of research prototypes demonstrating AI-driven manufacturing capabilities
- Write robust, testable, and well-documented code
Requirements
- Recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
- Hands-on experience with Python and at least one ML framework (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn)
- Comfort working with hardware, sensors, and physical experimental setups
- Basic understanding of data acquisition from physical systems (sensors, cameras, serial protocols, APIs)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written communication skills for documenting experiments and findings
- Ability to work on-site in Toronto 4x/week in manufacturing or lab environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience deploying ML models on edge or embedded devices
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, additive manufacturing, or robotics
- Experience with computer vision (object detection, defect classification, pose estimation)
- Knowledge of IoT protocols and frameworks (MQTT, OPC-UA, ROS)
- Experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure) for data storage and model training
- Experience with Autodesk products like Fusion, AutoCAD, or Inventor
