About the role
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner
- Verify insurance information, addresses, and phone numbers, and register new patients
- Answer incoming phone calls, direct calls, and take messages
- Schedule appointments and respond to the needs of patients and callers
- Assist new clients with paperwork, including explaining forms and obtaining necessary signatures and consents
- Process payments for co-pays, deductibles, co-insurance, self-pay, and missed appointment fees
- Maintain patient confidentiality and secure sensitive information in compliance with HIPAA privacy laws
- Manage a work queue to complete pending actions such as referrals and scheduling
- Perform clerical duties including copying, faxing, and filing
- Use electronic health record systems (Athena) to manage patient data and schedules
- Coordinate with the provider team regarding patient arrivals and potential schedule conflicts
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1+ years of computer proficiency, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
- 1+ years of customer experience in a medical or mental health office setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic understanding of medical terminology
- Proven ability to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences
- Ability to accomplish multiple tasks in an environment with frequent interruptions
- Strong organizational and time management skills
