About the role
Responsibilities
- Focus on understanding material science issues related to advanced manufacturing, including additive manufacturing and repair technologies
- Connect material properties to part end-use needs
- Review test plans, test reports, data, and specifications
- Perform troubleshooting and ideation for process improvements or material replacement
- Evaluate new and emerging technologies
Requirements
- BS degree in a relevant engineering field (e.g., materials, chemical, polymer, metallurgical, or aerospace)
- Experience with material characterization, property development, or product development
- Working knowledge of advanced manufacturing processes
- Experience following laboratory safety protocols
- Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
- U.S. Citizenship required due to federal research contract requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CAD/CAM software
- Hands-on experience with metals or polymer-based additive manufacturing (e.g., laser-powder bed fusion, DED, or FFF)
- Experience with mechanical testing (tensile, fatigue) or metallographic evaluation
- Experience working in an ISO9001/AS9100 manufacturing setting
- Experience with process optimization, continuous improvement, or Design of Experiments (DoE)
