About the role

Responsibilities

  • Engineer solutions to support research into the vulnerabilities of AI and ML algorithms and secure them against those vulnerabilities.
  • Build machine learning models and systems using frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Torch, and Caffe.
  • Develop data pipelines, ETL processes, and backend systems using Python, C/C++, and Java.
  • Conduct technical experimentation and rapid prototyping in domains like computer vision, NLP, and robot control.
  • Evaluate systems for performance and security using novel testing and analysis techniques.
  • Collaborate with researchers and government sponsors to transition AI capabilities into real-world applications.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to the technical growth of the division.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline with 3 years of experience; OR an MS in a related field with 1 year of experience; OR a PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active Department of War security clearance.
  • Willingness to work onsite 5 days per week in Pittsburgh, PA or Arlington, VA.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% to sponsor sites, conferences, or other SEI offices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in adversarial machine learning.
  • Proven track record of converting research results into functioning prototypes or capabilities.
  • Experience leading technical projects in novel areas with limited existing documentation.
  • Strong history of publishing technical artifacts or research papers.
