Associate General Counsel

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal advice to university leaders, faculty, and staff regarding higher education matters.
• Monitor and research emerging legal developments, including federal/state laws and NCAA regulations.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, licenses, leases, and athletics agreements.
• Oversee investigations, disputes, and litigation matters in coordination with university stakeholders and outside counsel.
• Collaborate with departments such as Human Resources, Risk Management, and Title IX to develop mission-aligned solutions.
• Manage outside counsel for quality and cost efficiency while improving internal legal workflows.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Current member in good standing of the Wisconsin Bar or ability to obtain licensure within 6 months.
• Minimum of seven years of general counsel experience.
• Advanced legal research and analysis skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex information.

• Previous legal experience within a higher education or non-profit organization.
