About the role
Responsibilities
- Oversee the Center for Accessible Education (CAE) Disability Specialist team and manage the documentation review and intake process
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to Disability Specialists, including establishing staffing levels and caseloads
- Manage a caseload of high-resource students requiring high-level support
- Coordinate and explain services for students, providing specialized disability-related counseling and referrals
- Lead or co-facilitate support groups and instruct small group workshops in disability management and advocacy
- Conduct disability awareness presentations for campus faculty, staff, and students
- Engage in outreach and establish linkages with campus and community organizations such as Counseling and Psychological Services and Academic Advisors
- Assist the CAE Director with resource management, including space, budget, and personnel
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Learning Disabilities, Special Education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Professional experience in post-secondary settings working with students with LD, ADHD, ABI, and psychological disabilities
- Proven ability to determine appropriate support services and accommodations based on clinical documentation
- Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Assembly Bill 746
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact sensitively with diverse student populations and campus colleagues
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for effective information exchange
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of UC Guidelines, Practices, and University Policy
- Experience organizing and teaching workshops or support groups for students with disabilities
- Knowledge of adaptive computer technology and specialized software
- Experience with factors interfering with academic achievement, such as social/emotional or bilingual/bicultural factors
