Associate Director, Tax

Responsibilities

• Facilitate all aspects of the annual University Form 990 filing, including affiliate filings and international hiring committee coordination.
• Assist with Form 990-T filings and provide general tax return compliance support.
• Conduct tax planning and research, including the preparation and review of various state, federal, and international tax returns and schedules.
• Develop tax-related procedures, training materials, and informational resources.
• Monitor changing laws impacting not-for-profit organizations and higher education to proactively update University policies.
• Partner with operational units to ensure compliant processes and monitor ongoing tax compliance across the University.
• Conduct periodic in-house reviews of procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and recommend enhancements to senior management.
• Supervise a senior tax accountant on a project or task basis as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 5-7 years of related professional experience.
• At least 2 years of experience specifically with exempt organization taxation.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
• Excellent research, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in an applicable field and/or CPA designation.
• Experience in public accounting, higher education, or the non-profit sector.
• Experience with PeopleSoft or other ERP systems.
• Experience using professional tax return preparation software.
