About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead the conceptualization, strategizing, and implementation of collaborative planning for research and academic operations within the Faculty of Medicine.
- Oversee the administration and operations of the Office of Research, including staff supervision and functional direction to the Graduate and Postdoctoral Education Office.
- Cultivate and manage strategic partnerships across the institution and with external entities to advance research priorities.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and tools to ensure effective management, accountability, and reporting within the Office of Research.
- Provide leadership in organizational and systems change strategies that promote equity, anti-racism, and inclusive excellence.
- Build business cases for continuous service improvement and manage faculty-wide initiatives in response to major funding calls.
- Oversee recruitment, training, performance reviews, and mentorship for all staff within the Office of Research.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
- Minimum of seven years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven experience in HR management and staff supervision.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and interact with empathy and respect with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD or a degree in Science.
- Professional designation related to health or life sciences.
- Specialized experience in leading major organizational change initiatives.
- Experience in research administration or office administration within a university setting.
- Thorough understanding of research management and the conduct of research.
- Knowledge of UBC grant and ethics application preparation.
