Associate Director of Compliance (Crypto)

Responsibilities

• Oversee a portfolio of client mandates to deliver industry-leading regulatory compliance and AML/CTF programs within the crypto sector.
• Act as the primary contact for ADGM, FSRA, and VARA, monitoring and implementing regulatory changes.
• Serve as MLRO, implementing AML/CTF controls, overseeing client onboarding (CDD/EDD), and investigating suspicious transactions.
• Develop, update, and maintain internal compliance policies, procedures, and audit-ready documentation.
• Drive business development by converting existing company relationships into new business opportunities and expanding the compliance practice.
• Conduct regular compliance reviews, risk assessments, and internal/external audits to identify and remediate control weaknesses.
• Deliver compliance and AML/CTF training programs for both staff and clients.
• Communicate compliance risks and obligations effectively to senior management and stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from a leading university in Law, Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
• 10+ years of overall industry experience.
• 8+ years of direct compliance experience within the financial services industry.
• Proven experience with VARA and other crypto-specific regulators.
• Significant experience dealing with regulatory authorities in the UAE and the wider MENA region.
• Demonstrated experience creating and implementing regulatory compliance programs.

Preferred Qualifications

• CAMS, CISI, or ICA certifications.
• Experience in a fast-paced, high-pressure regulatory environment.
