About the role
Responsibilities
- Build authentic, trust-based relationships with students and families to guide them through the college process
- Collaborate with the College Counseling team to design and lead signature programs for sophomores, juniors, and seniors
- Provide academic advising, including four-year course planning and request counseling
- Support students in developing individualized college lists and personalized standardized testing plans
- Write compelling letters of recommendation for students
- Co-plan and teach a 6-week college counseling class to juniors and seniors
- Serve as an upper school advisor and lead an extracurricular activity
- Develop and sustain long-term relationships with colleges and universities
- Participate in professional development and special projects such as AP or PSAT Testing Coordinator
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred
- At least three years of experience in selective college admissions or college counseling in independent schools
- Deep knowledge of college admissions and financial aid
- Exceptional analytical and narrative writing skills
- Technological fluency with SCOIR, Axiom, Slate, or College Kickstart
- Enthusiasm for working with adolescents and an equity-centered mindset
