About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide effective, concise, and timely legal advice to business, technical, and legal colleagues on IP matters
- Collaborate with internal clients to develop and execute IP strategies for key technologies and programs
- Negotiate and advise on a variety of transactions with customers, suppliers, partners, and licensees
- Oversee and manage the preparation and prosecution of patents
- Monitor, assess, and mitigate third-party patent risks
- Support sourcing initiatives, mergers, divestitures, acquisitions, and other special projects
- Counsel the company regarding intellectual property disputes
- Drive IP engagement and awareness throughout the organization
Requirements
- JD or LLB and admission in good standing to a state bar or Canadian bar
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in engineering or a technical field (e.g., aerospace, electro-mechanical, materials, or controls)
- 5+ years of experience as a practicing attorney
- Significant experience in patent preparation and prosecution, patent opinion work, or patent litigation
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, complex environment
- Proficiency in English for technical documentation and international communication
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office or as a Canadian patent agent
- Previous experience in an in-house legal role
- Experience with complex commercial IP transactions, mergers, or acquisitions
- Strong litigation experience resolving commercial IP disputes
