About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in the development, interpretation, and implementation of graduate academic policies and new program development.
  • Offer authoritative advice and guidance to the Graduate Curriculum Committee and Graduate Academic Policy Committee regarding UBC regulations and higher education policy.
  • Direct comprehensive advisory services to graduate programs, faculty, and students regarding curriculum and program development.
  • Manage the administration of the curriculum review process for all graduate curriculum at UBC.
  • Proactively identify and evaluate opportunities to improve policies, processes, and best practices within the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
  • Provide senior-level guidance to Faculties, departments, and University leadership on complex academic and policy matters.
  • Supervise and provide direction to the Student Academic Services team and direct staff members.
  • Triage and assess highly complex policy-related cases, providing expert analysis and recommendations to senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • 4-5 years of related experience in policy development or academic administration.
  • Proven experience in staff management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience working within a graduate education environment.
  • Experience in student administration and supporting complex student cases.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of principles of natural and administrative justice.
  • Experience developing, writing, and interpreting complex academic policies.
  • Proficiency with university management systems and digital tools.
