About the role
Responsibilities
- Guide the creation and execution of the strategic vision for the discipline, including long-term technology roadmaps and securing funding
- Manage and lead a team of engineers and technicians focused on high-temperature alloy development for next-generation engine designs
- Establish project prioritization, allocate resources, and ensure team members achieve objectives on schedule
- Provide technical mentorship and coaching regarding risk management and risk-based decision making
- Attract, hire, and develop talent to ensure successful knowledge transition to the next generation of subject matter experts
- Drive process improvements, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to enhance efficiency
- Build effective relationships by collaborating with internal and external customers and peers
Requirements
- BS degree in metallurgy, materials science, chemical engineering, or mechanical engineering with 12+ years of relevant experience
- OR an Advanced degree in a related engineering discipline with 10+ years of relevant experience
- US Citizenship is required
- Ability to travel approximately 10%
Preferred Qualifications
- Significant experience with processing, characterization, and mechanical properties of nickel-based alloys (cast, wrought, powder, or single crystal)
- Knowledge of physics-based materials and processes models and associated experimental research
- Demonstrated leadership or management experience within the aerospace or defense industry
- Experience with new material introductions and technology maturation processes (e.g., TRL/MRL)
- Experience managing collaborative projects and strategic partnerships with industry or academic institutions
