Associate Controller

Responsibilities

• Supervise, train, and lead the accounting staff within the Controller’s office
• Take primary responsibility for General Ledger upkeep, accuracy, and all GL reporting functions
• Assist in the preparation of campus quarterly and annual audited financial statements in compliance with GASB standards
• Serve as the primary point of contact for coordinating all audit matters, including annual general purpose financial audits and federal financial assistance audits
• Formulate and implement accounting policies and procedures in conformance with University and Commonwealth regulations
• Act as the subject matter expert for Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) and develop financial model analysis
• Maintain communications and relationships with various University departments and external agencies
• Ensure business processes and procedures are sufficiently documented and periodically reviewed for accuracy

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting
• 4-7 years of direct experience in accounting or finance
• Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience
• Working knowledge of GAAP and GASB accounting principles and financial statement preparation
• High level of proficiency in integrated financial management systems and Microsoft Office suite
• Ability to travel throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts on a regular basis

Preferred Qualifications

• Master of Business Administration (MBA)
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation
• Financial background in an academic or public institution environment
