About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide scientific direction and oversight for laboratory safety and specialty testing, including hematology, chemistry, immunoassays, flow cytometry, and molecular testing.
  • Ensure the development, implementation, and compliance of standardized processes for the CTI central lab.
  • Design, validate, and maintain the technical accuracy and medical reliability of laboratory tests.
  • Oversee laboratory documentation to ensure inspection readiness for regulatory bodies such as FDA, CLIA, CAP, EMA, ISO, and IVDR.
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of the laboratory Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Manage personnel by establishing competency monitoring, providing remedial training, and overseeing continuing education.
  • Partner with IT and Lab Leadership on the implementation and management of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

Requirements

  • Fluent in English.
  • Meet all local requirements to serve as a Laboratory Director in Bilbao, Spain.
  • Meet CAP (College of American Pathologists) laboratory director license requirements, which include one of the following:
  • PharmD or PhD in clinical laboratory science with specialization in Clinical Analysis or Clinical Biochemistry (or EU equivalent) and 2 years of clinical laboratory leadership experience.
  • MD or DO with board certification in anatomic or clinical pathology.
  • MD or DO with 1 year of clinical laboratory training during residency or 2 years of experience supervising high complexity testing.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory leader across multiple clinical disciplines.
