About the role

Responsibilities

  • Support video rollout plans across on-site and off-platform channels, coordinating with journalists and producers to support visual investigations and multimedia stories.
  • Optimize headlines, descriptions, and metadata to enhance searchability and discovery while maintaining editorial integrity.
  • Implement social distribution plans to maximize the reach and impact of video journalism.
  • Work on coverage plans for tentpole events and collaborate with search, social, community, and newsletter teams.
  • Track and analyze competitors' video performance to identify insights and benchmark the company's approach.
  • Partner with the Editor, Video Audience to analyze data and deliver actionable daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Director to identify video projects for award submissions.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in journalism or with a media company.
  • Proven track record in audience engagement.
  • Demonstrated understanding of mainstream and emerging social video platforms (e.g., YouTube, TikTok).
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to interpret video data into actionable feedback.
  • Commitment to The New York Times mission and values.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to write in an engaging, smart tone that feels native to social media.
  • Strong editorial judgment and comfort with experimentation.
  • Experience with project management tools such as Airtable or Google Suite.
  • Experience running a social media account with an emphasis on video publishing.
  • Experience working cross-functionally across multiple departments.
