About the role
Responsibilities
- Support video rollout plans across on-site and off-platform channels, coordinating with journalists and producers to support visual investigations and multimedia stories.
- Optimize headlines, descriptions, and metadata to enhance searchability and discovery while maintaining editorial integrity.
- Implement social distribution plans to maximize the reach and impact of video journalism.
- Work on coverage plans for tentpole events and collaborate with search, social, community, and newsletter teams.
- Track and analyze competitors' video performance to identify insights and benchmark the company's approach.
- Partner with the Editor, Video Audience to analyze data and deliver actionable daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
- Collaborate with the Operations Director to identify video projects for award submissions.
Requirements
- Previous experience in journalism or with a media company.
- Proven track record in audience engagement.
- Demonstrated understanding of mainstream and emerging social video platforms (e.g., YouTube, TikTok).
- Strong project management skills.
- Ability to interpret video data into actionable feedback.
- Commitment to The New York Times mission and values.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to write in an engaging, smart tone that feels native to social media.
- Strong editorial judgment and comfort with experimentation.
- Experience with project management tools such as Airtable or Google Suite.
- Experience running a social media account with an emphasis on video publishing.
- Experience working cross-functionally across multiple departments.
