About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead Athletics fundraising strategy with an emphasis on major gifts, campaign priorities, and annual fundraising goals.
- Manage a personal portfolio of high-capacity prospects to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift opportunities.
- Develop individualized cultivation and stewardship strategies in partnership with Athletics leadership, coaches, and volunteers.
- Provide leadership and supervision for Athletics development staff, setting performance expectations and accountability for results.
- Build and sustain relationships with alumni, parents, community leaders, corporations, and foundations.
- Oversee Athletics development operations, including budget planning, donor events, and program effectiveness.
- Collaborate with University Development to align Athletics priorities with broader annual giving and campaign strategies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- Seven (7) years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, preferably in higher education or athletics.
- Demonstrated success securing major gifts of $100,000 or more.
- Experience managing donor portfolios and leading campaign strategies.
- Experience supervising development professionals.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet University fleet rules.
- Willingness to work non-business hours, weekends, and travel frequently (local and overnight).
- Ability to work in-person in Stockton, CA, or relocate within 25 miles of the campus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree.
- Proven ability to move donors through the full fundraising cycle.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate staff and manage budgets.
- Excellent written, verbal, and negotiation skills.
- Experience advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
