About the role

Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, and evaluate multidisciplinary educational programs for residents, local officials, and natural resource users in St. Tammany and Tangipahoa parishes.
  • Focus on sustainable management of commercial and recreational fisheries, wetlands, water, and other natural resources.
  • Develop outreach addressing the impacts of rapid community and economic development on regional water resources and coastal ecosystems.
  • Address community resilience related to environmental change, wetland loss, and storm surge threats.
  • Collaborate with public and private sector leaders, including parish governments and state/federal resource management agencies.
  • Establish advisory committees to help formulate annual plans of work and inform local decision-making.
  • Utilize various communication methods including workshops, web-based content, mass media, and professional writing.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree in natural resource management, fisheries, wildlife, biology, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Minimum graduate GPA of 3.0 (if graduate work has been attempted).
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Possession of a personal automobile and appropriate insurance coverage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in applied research, data collection, and applied resource management.
  • Experience planning and executing educational programs.
  • Knowledge of public relations and the ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups.
  • Ability to function effectively with minimum supervision.
