About the Company

The Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA) is a non-profit international research institute dedicated to food, nutrition, and livelihood security as well as environmental rehabilitation in South Asia. BISA is a collaborative effort involving CIMMYT and the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR).

Responsibilities

• Manage wheat breeding trials including field layout, seed preparation, sowing, and harvesting
• Collect, manage, and synthesize data on wheat breeding trials and nurseries
• Conduct ICAR-IIWBR coordinated yield trials and drought/heat stress tolerance trials
• Evaluate nurseries for yellow rust resistance and manage large plot station trials
• Contribute to high-throughput wheat phenotyping protocols using handheld and remote sensors
• Conduct molecular breeding research activities to enhance trait selection
• Analyze wheat grain samples for nutritional quality parameters
• Manage data, perform statistical analysis, and write scientific publications
• Distribute selected wheat lines to national partners
• Collaborate with government and private sector partners
• Communicate research results to scientists, policymakers, and farmers

Requirements

• M.Sc. in Agriculture (Genetics and Plant Breeding) with 2+ years of wheat research experience, or a Ph.D. in Genetics and Plant Breeding
• Strong understanding of crop management practices in wheat-based systems
• Experience with molecular markers for gene/QTL mapping is desirable
• Experience in phenotyping physiological traits associated with heat tolerance is desirable
• Proficiency in statistical data analysis and scientific report writing
• Skills in computer applications for genetic analysis and breeding
• Good oral and written communication skills in English
• Ability to work in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams
