Assistant Vice President for Alumni and Donor Engagement

About the role
Responsibilities
- Set the strategic direction for alumni engagement, donor relations, and annual giving.
- Serve as the Executive Director of the WSU Alumni Association.
- Lead, coach, and mentor a professional team across alumni engagement, donor relations, advancement research, and annual giving.
- Develop and nurture relationships with key influencers, including university leadership, board members, alumni, and faculty.
- Implement metrics-driven strategies to increase engagement within alumni networks, chapters, and volunteer roles.
- Manage departmental budgets and establish standard operating procedures to ensure service continuity.
- Maintain a portfolio of major gift prospects and partner with the major gifts team to ensure a healthy donor pipeline.
- Participate in university leadership planning, budgeting, and campaign efforts focused on scholarships and student success.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree.
- Five years of experience in alumni relations or university fundraising at a similar institution.
- Proven success in cultivating and closing major gifts.
- Experience in developing diverse and impactful volunteer boards.
- Demonstrated success working with multi-disciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree.
- Experience working in a complex, dynamic environment connecting philanthropic interests with the needs of students, faculty, and staff.
- Proven ability to manage diverse interests and connect effectively with the community.
- Ability to serve as a bridge between the University and its alumni/donor base.
- Experience being accountable to multiple constituents, including senior university leadership and academic colleagues.
- Superb communication skills with the ability to speak passionately about the university's vision and future.
