Assistant Teacher

Responsibilities

• Support lead teachers in preparing and delivering instructional activities for Montessori learning
• Assist in presenting individual and small-group Montessori lessons
• Observe children daily to assess skills, interests, and needs
• Prepare and maintain a safe, organized, and attractive classroom environment
• Support children's independence with daily living skills like hygiene and mealtime
• Maintain records on child progress and development
• Develop positive relationships with children to promote self-esteem and self-discipline
• Implement student support and behavior plans as needed
• Participate in team meetings, center activities, and staff development

Requirements

• Four years of professional experience as an aide, assistant, or lead teacher (infancy through 3rd grade) OR two years of experience plus an associate's degree in a relevant field OR a Bachelor's degree
• Primary Montessori teaching credential from a MACTE-accredited institution or ability to obtain one within two years
• Ability to pass background checks and tuberculosis screenings
• Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs
• Access to reliable transportation
• Familiarity with Hawaii and Hawaiian culture

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's degree or higher in education or a related field
• Experience teaching in a Montessori preschool
• Experience working with children with special needs
• Experience working with families in low-income areas
• Experience in culturally responsive and trauma-informed teaching
• Proficiency in Hawaiian language
