Assistant Speech and Debate Coach

Responsibilities

• Assist with student coaching and preparation, including practices, research review, performance evaluation, and ballot review
• Provide individual or group coaching in speech and/or debate based on program needs
• Support recruitment of prospective students by attending high school competitions and campus activities
• Assist with competition travel logistics, including registration, lodging, and transportation
• Attend and judge intercollegiate speech and debate competitions as assigned
• Support team culture, professionalism, and student engagement goals
• Maintain professional competency and stay updated on speech and debate trends

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in a related field
• 2 years of experience in competitive speech and/or debate as a competitor
• Strong interpersonal and group communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital communication/conferencing software
• Ability to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and frequent competition travel

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Communication or a related field
• 5 years of experience in competitive speech and/or debate, including coaching experience
• Experience with competition operations, recruitment, or high school outreach
