Juris Doctorate or Bachelor of Law, Membership in the State Bar of Michigan, Legal research skills, Computer literacy, Writing sample required
About the role
Responsibilities
- Prepare and respond to motions in trial courts
- Prepare and respond to filings in the Michigan Court of Appeals and Michigan Supreme Court
- Conduct oral arguments in appellate courts as needed
- Research complex legal issues and provide guidance to trial attorneys and local law enforcement agencies
- Perform specialized projects related to the work of the Appellate Division
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate or Bachelor of Law from an accredited law school
- Active membership in the State Bar of Michigan (candidates awaiting bar results may be considered)
- Strong legal research skills and proficiency with legal reference sources
- Basic computer literacy
- Submission of a writing sample is required for consideration
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience handling criminal cases as a practicing attorney
- Prior experience specifically focused on appellate law or appellate work
