About the role

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and respond to motions in trial courts
  • Prepare and respond to filings in the Michigan Court of Appeals and Michigan Supreme Court
  • Conduct oral arguments in appellate courts as needed
  • Research complex legal issues and provide guidance to trial attorneys and local law enforcement agencies
  • Perform specialized projects related to the work of the Appellate Division

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate or Bachelor of Law from an accredited law school
  • Active membership in the State Bar of Michigan (candidates awaiting bar results may be considered)
  • Strong legal research skills and proficiency with legal reference sources
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Submission of a writing sample is required for consideration

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience handling criminal cases as a practicing attorney
  • Prior experience specifically focused on appellate law or appellate work
