Assistant Professor; Organic Chemistry Lab Coordinator

Responsibilities

• Teach a 4-4 course load, including face-to-face and online classes
• Serve as the Organic Chemistry Laboratory Coordinator for Organic Chemistry I and II
• Prepare solutions, reagents, and equipment for all organic chemistry lab sections
• Maintain inventory of chemicals, supplies, and equipment for the organic chemistry labs
• Develop new experiments and maintain awareness of best practices in lab instruction
• Manage course coordination, assessment, and laboratory safety at all times
• Provide academic advising and mentoring to students to prepare them for graduate school and the workforce

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Education (conferred by the time of appointment)
• Undergraduate teaching experience
• Proficiency in written and spoken English
• Commitment to the mission of Xavier University of Louisiana and academic advising for HBCU students

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong commitment to teaching a full load of 24 credit hours per academic year
• Demonstrated ability to develop and teach new organic chemistry lab experiments
• Experience developing pedagogical projects centered around the organic chemistry laboratory curriculum
• Proven excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds
